Sequence annotations 1: Automatically continue numbering across steps
Proposal
Add an option to continue sequence annotation (aka numbered dots) numbers from the previous step image.
Current Solution
Start number is set manually for each image. If an earlier image has dot is added or deleted , each subsequent image must be manually adjusted.
How will you benefit?
- Less effort required for revisions
- Less to check during documentation reviews
- Lower probability of rework.
- Better document quality - fewer errors and inconsistencies.
Ergonomics
This solution might have a "Continue from previous step" checkbox in the Content Inspector adjacent to the "Start on sequence" option.
New steps inherit the continuation flag from the preceding step.
Inheriting steps look back to the nearest step that has sequence dots.
There may be steps in the inheritance chain are not required to have sequence annotations, but they still inherit the start number from their predecessor and pass it on to their successor. If dots are subsequently added to a step in the chain without dots, these dots will inherit their start number from the predecessor, and change the start number appearing on following images.
