This is a feature we have experimented with a bit internally. What sort of configuration options would you require for you needs?

Great, thanks for getting back to me. I can only think of one configuration option: a checkbox to include/exclude subheadings.

Perhaps a menu that allows you to select the maximum header depth to use? You would select a number between 1 and 4 and all headings up to that level would be included in the menu.

    yeah, that sounds good.

and, if the block is not editable, maybe an option to indent/not to indent the subheadings. if the block is editable, it's not necessary.

I don't think the block would be editable as that complicates things. So the option would be to have a hierarchal layout or a flat layout?

They best way to handle this would be with CSS. A nested list would be created and you could control indentation with CSS.

Unfortunately no. We haven't moved beyond the experiments that we had done earlier as other areas have taken priority.

ok, thanks for the update. btw, the insert heading links option you've recently added makes it much easier and faster to manually create the toc. so we're almost there anyway :)

    thanks!

I'm glad that feature is helpful in the meantime.
